About the
Disc Golf Foundation
Established as a 501(c)(3) in 2004, the Disc Golf Foundation is the primary charitable organization for growing the sport of disc golf.
We support initiatives that:
- Bring Disc Golf to a more diverse population
- Create and improve disc golf facilities
- Preserve the history of disc golf
We accomplish this through charitable giving and strategic partnership.
What is disc golf?
Disc golf is similar to regular golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use specially-designed flying discs to aim and throw at elevated metal baskets (the holes). The object is to complete the course in the fewest number of throws.
Who can play and where?
Disc golf is an easy-to-learn, healthy activity that is accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. There are over 8,000 courses around the world. Each year, millions of people play disc golf both recreationally and competitively.
Who invented disc golf?
“Steady” Ed Headrick is considered the Father of Disc Golf. The sport was formalized with the creation of the PDGA in 1976. For more on the history of disc golf, check out our Culture Preservation section.
